Is this for me?
If you have been thinking about learning to program but don’t know where to begin from or don’t have the time and budget to go to a school, then this is for you. You’ll have the comfort of your own couch and schedule but the sense of community and accountability in terms of assignments & quizzes, the best of both worlds.
What will be the mode of teaching for this course?
This will be an online course and you'd be given lectures, assignments and the feedback on your performance online. So you can join from any part of the world, as long as you have a decent internet connection.
Is it possible to do with a full time job?
Only if you're committed to make the effort required, about 10 hours a week at minimum. Like any other new skill, learning to program requires some discipline and effort. Since this only gets ingrained with practice, I personally believe it's better to do part time so you take the time to let the concepts sink in, practice those to get a hold of them and think of creative ways to apply them, not in a rush of merely completing the course.
Isn’t there a lot of information available on Internet already? How is this course any different?
Sure there is plenty of information on Internet, i.e., blogs, tutorials, books etc. Some people do have the discipline and patience to use the resources available online and make their way through the learning curve to actually build something cool.
But in my experience, many of us start with a big motivation and make very strong effort in the beginning; only until we stumble upon something a little bit complex or have hard time understanding a concept that our motivation starts to wither away. We promise to come back to it later and put the effort but keep pushing it further and further. Until one day, we give up.
A little bit of help at those crucial moments, obviously a core feature of this program, can make all the difference in keeping you moving forward vs being stuck at some point leading to a complete halt.
Who is teaching the course?
I’m Aqeel Aslam, a skilled software developer by profession and a mentor & instructor by heart (and passion). I have been helping others learn how to program for quite some time. My students range from university students who wanted to improve their grades to hobbyists and professionals trying to make a move in IT industry.
